It’s Time to Go Trucking
Trucks and Trailers is a fresh simulator game that gives players a crash course in manoeuvring their very own vehicle. As the name suggests, trailers are coupled to these trucks, which can make them very tricky to drive and park. That is the main challenge of the game and there are plenty of hair raising moments along the way as you try not to take the crash course in parking too literally.
Players are given a series of special designated spots to park their huge vehicles in. The spots are often very tight and players must practice different types of parking to put their truck in the perfect position so that the trailers can be unloaded and players can successfully complete the level and move onto the next.
The game comes packed with fifty different challenges to complete as well as a large number of different trucks to choose from. The first challenges in the game are fairly simple, which allows players to ease into things gradually. The first stage involves demonstrating your parking skills by reversing into tight areas that are mapped out with cones.
The game tutorial is pretty straight forward and serves as a good introduction to the game. It doesn’t take long for players to figure out what they need to do and the best way to go about it. The simple game structure allows players to dive right into the game and use their driving and parking skills to complete challenges as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
There are three different parking skills to master; reverse, parallel and forwards. Finally, after proving that they have what it takes to successfully park their truck, players are able to set out on the open road. Players who have been looking forward to this part of the game may be disappointed to discover that the roads that they hit are very small and there is not much traffic around. this section of the game is over rather quickly and before you know it the next challenge is presented and it is time to demonstrate your parking skills once again.
Despite the repetitive nature of completing parking challenges, they are surprisingly engaging. In order to pull of the perfect parking manoeuvre players will need quite a lot of skill as well as concentration and focus. Before you know it, minutes can turn into hours and players are awarded gold medals for their efforts, providing them with a certain sense of achievement.
The game locations are well created and come complete with various obstacles in the form of other vehicles as well as buildings and other elements. Players are sure to wince at the scraping noise that is provided if they come to close to another vehicle or a building and damage their paintwork.
The cab of the truck comes complete with cameras and mirrors that can be used to move the truck into the right spot. Narrowly missing another vehicle or another obstacle and sliding into the parking space provides a feeling of achievement and definitely helps to hone parking skills.
People who are learning to drive or new to driving will have lots of opportunities to practice their parking skills during Trucks and Trailers. However, the game does not offer much in terms of the actual driving experience and it can feel rather dull and repetitive after a while.
